Monson Pumpkin Festival activities will include pumpkins for sale; pumpkin carving; contests, including best pumpkin carving and decorating, best chili and best pies; children's activities and games; food for sale; music and entertainment; Jack-o-Lantern illuminations at dusk; and a Sunday morning Pumpkin Pancake Breakfast at 8:00 a.m.
Pumpkins will be available for sale on Thursday and Friday (October 16th and 17th from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m.), and all day Saturday until 6:00 p.m. Pumpkin carving and decorating activities begin on October 18 at 9:30 a.m. and will continue throughout the day. Entrants must submit their pumpkin to the carving and decorating contest by 3:30 p.m. Pumpkin carvers can bring their own tools to carve pumpkins or purchase a set of basic tools at the festival.
Other contests include the "Best Chili" and "Perfect Pie Contest." Best Chili entries must be dropped off at the judging stand by 11:30 a.m. wrapped in towels to keep them hot. Perfect Pie Contest participants can drop off their apple and/or pumpkin pie to the judging stand by noon (apple pies) and 1:00 p.m. (pumpkin pies). All chili and pie entries will be donated and sold as a fundraiser for the First Church of Monson. Entrants should call Larry Harris at 413-599-0176 if they are planning to enter the chili or pie contest.
Jack-o-Lanterns will be on display at dusk and all entries must be picked up by 6:30 p.m. Lunch, desserts and hot mulled cider will be available for sale. Extensive children's activities will include games, face painting, and more.
