When I Was Just a Little Girl

When I was just a little girl,
I was always hurt, with my curls.

I said, "When I grow up, you will see
no-one will ever hurt me."

I always wanted to have a toy -
anything that would give me joy.

So I would pray every night,
"Just one doll will be all right!"

I got my first doll when I was ten.
That was when I went to heaven.

Now I watch over little girls like me,
who all, like me, pray on their knee.

God sent his angels to live down there
to help someone hear their prayer.

So, if you think of others,
it's because down deep we are all mothers.

And I see things like a child
for God to help me be meek and mild.
