SPRINGFIELD – The American International College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is once again participating in the Salvation Army's Adopt-A Family program this holiday season.
While the primary donation collection took place at the Dec. 8 basketball doubleheader, anyone unable to make it to the games, but would still like to make a donation can do so by visiting the athletic department or campus recreation office.
The family that has been adopted by SAAC is comprised of a 24-year-old single mother and her nine-year-old son. In addition to basic needs, SAAC will hope to provide some of the wish list items listed below to try and make this Christmas a special one for the family.
The Adopt-A-Family program matches impoverished families with individual or group sponsors to provide for their tangible needs at Christmas. Without the benefit of an adoption, these families would be looking forward to a very grim holiday. Being adopted is designed to be a once or, on very rare occasions, twice in a lifetime event for recipient families.
When an Adopt-A-Family match is made, the family information and wish lists are sent to the sponsor. The Salvation Army ensures that the family receives the gifts and food during the week before Christmas.
The mother's wish list includes: clothing (shirt size: small, pant size: 1, show size: 4), king size bed sheets, R&B music, inexpensive jewelry from H&M, Forever 21, etc.
Her son's wish list includes Clothing from Hollister (t-shirt size: small), bike, remote control monster truck, Xbox games.
