SPRINGFIELD The Springfield Armor signed former Wake Forest and Worcester Academy center Chas McFarland today. To make room on the roster, the Armor waived Mike Williams.
The 7-foot-tall McFarland, who is a native of Lovington, Ill., played his senior season of high school basketball at Worcester Academy, where he averaged 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks per game.
At Wake Forest, McFarland was a three-year starter for the Demon Deacons, and graduated in May after playing in a total of 107 games.
McFarland finished eighth on the school's all-time blocked shots list with 114 blocks and he is also one of only nine players in Wake Forest history to record at least 500 rebounds and 100 blocks. Over the course of his career, McFarland averaged 7.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.0 blocked shot per game.
"Chas is a skilled post player and an accomplished shot blocker," Armor coach Dee Brown said. "We're excited to have Chas on board to contribute on our front line."
Mike Williams, whom the Armor released in order to add McFarland, played in 4 games with the Armor, averaging 1.8 points and 6.3 rebounds in 14 minutes per game.
"Mike is a consummate professional and a terrific person," Brown said. "We want to thank Mike for his contributions to our organization both on and off the court."
McFarland was in uniform for Friday's 7:00 p.m. game at the MassMutual Center against the Austin Toros.
