SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield Armor recently announced the addition of former University of Connecticut forward Gavin Edwards and Jarvis Gunter. To make room on the roster, the Armor waived Kyle Cuffe and waived Jamar Brown due to injury.
The 6-foot-10 Edwards, who is a native of Gilbert, Ariz., played four years at UConn, averaging 10.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks in 30.4 minutes per game during his senior season.
Edwards was a member of the Huskies' 2009 NCAA Final Four team.
This past summer, Edwards played for the Phoenix Suns in the NBA's Las Vegas Summer League, averaging 3.6 points and 2.2 rebounds in five games.
Following his stint in the summer league, Edwards signed with the Anyang KT&G Kites of the Korean Basketball League, averaging 5.1 points and 2.4 rebounds in seven games.
Edwards then moved on to Khimik-OPZ Yuzny of the Ukrainian Basketball Super League, averaging 5.3 points and 2.3 rebounds in three games.
"Gavin is an athletic and versatile front court player and we're excited to have him here in Springfield," Armor head coach Dee Brown said.
The 6-foot-10 Gunter, who is a native of Columbus, Miss., played collegiately at Arkansas-Pine Bluff, where he averaged 7 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game in 105 games played.
Following the conclusion of his career at Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Gunter, 25, joined the Erie BayHawks during their expansion season of 2008-09.
Gunter has played in 85 career NBA D-League games, including three games this season with the BayHawks.
"We're excited to bring Jarvis aboard," Dee Brown said. "Jarvis has experience and will provide us with another quality option in the front court."
Cuffe, whom the Armor released in order to add Gunter, averaged 7.7 points and 3.3 rebounds in 17 minutes per game with the Armor. He appeared in 10 games and scored a season-high 28 points in a loss to Maine on Nov. 27.
"We appreciate Kyle's hard work during his time in Spring-field," Brown said.
Jamar Brown, whom the Armor waived due to injury, averaged 3.8 points and 3.3 rebounds in nine games played.
