Athletes honored by Wilbraham & Monson Academy

WILBRAHAM On May 20, Wilbraham & Monson Academy held its spring athletic awards ceremony.

In 1999, the Wilbraham & Monson Academy Athletic Council inaugurated an award to recognize those members of the graduating class who, in an age of increasing specialization In sport, were members of three competitive athletic teams during their final year at the Academy.

Most Valuable Player awards (shown here) for the spring season were presented to Brian Fracasso of West Hartford, Conn., for baseball; Molley Shea of Westfield and Rickey Moore of Springfield for track and field; Adam Ginsberg of Arlington, Va., for boys' lacrosse; Carly Cronin of Feeding Hills for girls' lacrosse; Brooke Mele of Wilbraham for softball; Michaela Rollings and Sean Meunier of Longmeadow for tennis; and Matthew Antonacci of Somersville, Conn., for golf.

Those from the Pioneer Valley in the Class of 2010 who received this award included: Edmond Bertheaud of Hampden, water polo, ski team and lacrosse; Caitlin Charette of Chicopee, water polo, wrestling and lacrosse; David Lawrence of Wilbraham, soccer, ski team and tennis; Steven Marcus of West Springfield, water polo, basketball and baseball; Rickey Moore of Springfield, football, winter track and spring track and field; Stephanie Robbins of Wilbraham, field hockey, ski team and lacrosse.

Most Valuable Player awards for the spring season were presented to nine students including: Molley Shea of Westfield and Rickey Moore of Springfield for track and field; Carly Cronin of Feeding Hills for girls' lacrosse; Brooke Mele of Wilbraham for softball; and Michaela Rollings and Sean Meunier of Longmeadow for tennis.

Coaches Award winners for the spring season included: Stephanie Robbins of Wilbraham for lacrosse; Alyssa Natario of Ludlow for softball; Jessica Wyszynski of Wilbraham for golf; and Brian Carr of Springfield for baseball.

The following postseason league honors have also been announced. At the Suffield Invitational Tennis Tournament, five-time #1 singles player Michaela Rollings won the singles title for the third time 6-2, 6-0.

Ashley Drost, a five-year varsity softball player at the Academy from Springfield, represented the Academy at the league all-star game. Ashley finished her career with a .400 batting average.

Casey Berg of Wilbraham and Allison Arnieri of Manchester, N.H., were named to the All Western New England Prep School Softball Association first team.

Boys' Varsity Volleyball was accorded varsity status this year, and had a very strong season with wins over Northfield Mount Hermon, Choate Rosemary Hall and Phillips Andover, and a second place finish in the postseason Founding Four Tournament.

The Boys' and Girls' Varsity Track and Field team both had members qualify for the New England tournament. The boys took fourth place among 19 schools, with Rickey Moore Jr. of Springfield placing third in the 100 and 200.

High notes in the girls' performance were Molley Shea of Westfield placing fourth in the 300 low hurdles and Emma Camilleri of Wilbraham coming in fifth in the pole vault.
