Baystate's Senior Class to sponsor free balance disorder discussion with demonstrations

SPRINGFIELD Baystate Medical Center's Senior Class will host a free discussion about the warning signs and risks associated with balance disorders, "The Balancing Act,"on Feb. 11 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Baystate Rehabilitation Care, 360 Birnie Ave.

Physical therapists Rebecca Mitchell and Nancy Densmore will lead discussions and demonstrations designed to teach participants simple, effective and inexpensive ways to prevent falls, as well as general exercises and instructions to minimize their risk for falling.

According to the National Institutes of Health, more than one in three people age 65 years or older suffers a fall each year.

Comfortable clothing is recommended for balance stations and demonstrations. Refreshments will be served.
