GREATER SPRINGFIELD Three local gymnasts topped the medal stand at the USA Gymnastics Level 7 Massachusetts State Championships in Eastham on April 10.
Level 7 marks the first optional level in the Junior Olympic program Levels 3 to 10 and requires the gymnasts to train five days a week, three to four hours a day. They are coached by Marlyce Morace and Andy Leis at Daggett Gymnastics in Agawam.
More than 200 gymnasts traveled to the Cape to attend the state meet. As one of only four other gymnasts her age in the state to qualify, 9-year-old Krishiana Ramesh from East Longmeadow, placed third all-around and took bronze on all four events as well.
Ten-year-old Natalie Horowitz from Longmeadow placed second among a strong field of 30 competitors when she posted a high all-around score of 37.825. She also took silver on vault and beam, both with 9.60, and third on uneven bars.
Also from Longmeadow, 12-year-old Madison Perry won the balance beam event with a 9.45 and placed sixth all-around in her age bracket.
The girls enjoyed tremendous success all season. In February, they traveled to compete in the prestigious Excalibur Cup Invitational where they topped the podium there as well, placing among the top three in one or more events for their respective age groups.
