SOUTH EASTON – American International College (AIC) women's soccer junior back Allie Fitzsimmons of West Springfield, was named the 2012 Northeast-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, it was announced following a vote of the NE-10 head coaches.
Fitzsimmons, who also earned first-team all-conference honors for the second straight season, has started in all 17 games for AIC, scoring five goals with one assist for 11 points. She is tied for the team lead with three game-winning goals this season. She also led a defense that has recorded ten shutouts in the last 11 games, just one shy of the school record for shutouts in a season. Fitzsimmons is the third player in program history to be named Northeast-10 Player of the Year, joining current head women's basketball coach Kristen (Patterson) Hutchison (2000) and Amanda Matthews (1988). She is the second player to be named Defensive Player of the Year, the first being Nicole Sullivan in 2000.
