|
With the eager anticipation of the upcoming XXI Olympic Winter Games this winter in Vancouver, B.C., Canada, figure skaters from across the northeast and beyond have sharpened their ice skates and will compete against each other, demonstrating their figure skating skills, at the annual 2009 Pioneer Valley Penguin Invitational Skating Competition which will be hosted by the Little Sun Valley Skating Club of Springfield and sanctioned by the United States Figure Skating Association (USFSA).
The competition is one of the largest USFSA competitions in the northeast U.S. and will take place Nov. 21 from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Smead Arena, 1780 Roosevelt Ave., Springfield.
Nearly 200 skaters whose skills range from beginner to the expert are expected to attend and compete for medals. Many of the most successful skaters may go on to compete and hope for future placement with the U.S. Olympic Figure Skating Team.
The public is invited to attend all parts of the competition at no charge and see the champions of tomorrow. Beginners and basic skills skaters will start off the day's competition with the skill levels increasing as the day progresses.
Based in Springfield, the Little Sun Valley Skating Club is one of the oldest continuously operated skating organizations in New England and is dedicated to helping figure skaters of all levels achieve their highest potential.
