HALL OF FAME TO HOST YOUTH-FOCUSED EVENT

SPRINGFIELD For the second year in a row, there will be a unique awards ceremony at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Children from throughout Springfield will be celebrated and acknowledged for their demonstrated character on June 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. This event will feature exceptional guest speakers, entertainment by the Ballroom Dancers, the Children's Chorus of Springfield, Dream Studio and the MLK Double-Dutch Team.

The Kids of Character event is sponsored by Step Up Springfield, an organization dedicated to helping all kids in Springfield achieve proficiency in academics and character development. According to its Executive Director Tim Allen, the event provides the city with an opportunity to recognize children who have demonstrated outstanding character development in areas of respect, responsibility, relationships and citizenship and have been nominated by their schools and community-based organization. These kids are the ones we need to hear more about. They're the kids who will be Springfield's future leaders.

To learn more about the June 11 event or to become involved in Step Up Springfield, please contact Tim Allen at 693-0207 or through e-mail at stepupspringfield@uwpv.org or tallen@uwpv.org.
