John Mentor, a 14-year-old ski racer from Longmeadow, recently won the Slalom and Giant Slalom Tri-State Alpine Ski Championships. His first place finishes qualified him for the J3 Junior Olympics at the Waterville Valley (N.H.) Ski Resort in mid-March, where he had a strong performance. Mentor trains locally at the Berkshire East Ski Area with Coach Kevin Kelly of East Longmeadow.
