Jonathan named NECC Player of the Week |

CHICOPEE Elms College sophomore forward Ziggy Jonathan of Springfield was named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week in men’s soccer as announced by the league on Oct. 24.
Jonathan helped pace the Blazers to a 2-0 week with a 4-1 victory against conference foe Mitchell College on Oct. 18 and a 7-1 non-league win at Rivier College on Oct. 20.
Jonathan, Elms’ leader in goals, netted a one goal and added two assists against the Mariners before exploding for four goals and an assist in the Blazers triumph over the Raiders. Jonathan finished the two-game week with five goals and three assists en route to his first weekly accolade of the season.
Parsons named to honor roll
Joe Parsons, goalkeepr for the Bridgewater State men’s soccer team, earned a spot on the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference’s weekly honor roll on Oct. 23. The junior from Springfield turned aside 12 shots, including pair of game-savers in final the 13 seconds of regulation in the Bears’ 1-1 double overtime tie at Massachusetts Maritime.
Legare scores in Mount Holyoke victory
CHICOPEE Amber Legare of Chicopee scored a goal for the Mount Holyoke College women’s soccer team as it topped Westfield State 5-1 in a match on Oct. 20.
Victoria Cebula of Granby netted the Elms’ lone goal.
Croteau kills in conference win
CHICOPEE Elms College senior outside hitter Stacy Croteau of Agawam drilled a match-high 20 kills and added 25 digs to help pace the Blazers to a hard-fought 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-22) victory over Mitchell College in an Oct. 19 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women’s volleyball match at Picknelly Arena.
Rivard scores in rout
WESTFIELD Junior forward Leann Rivard of Chicopee tallied her seventh goal of the season in the 55th minute as the Owls took an insurmountable lead in a 7-0 blowout of Rhode Island College on Oct. 18.
Locals compete at NEIGA Championship
SPRINGFIELD Western New England’s Anthony Willett of Springfield totalled a score of 159 (80-79), which tied for 64th, as the Golden Bears placed 11th among 34 schools at the 77th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship on Oct. 19 at The Captains Course in Brewster
Meanwhile, sophomore Tommy LeBlanc, also of Springfield, was one of 12 players tied for 82nd with a 161 (83-78) as American International College place seventh as a team.
