Locals receive All-MASCAC distinctions, other honors

GREATER SPRINGFIELD – Several local collegiate athletes were named to their respective sports’ Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) All-Conference teams and received other league honors on Nov. 6.

Feeding Hills’ Alycia Rackliffe capped an outstanding freshman season for the Framingham State University women’s volleyball team, by being named the 2013 MASCAC Rookie of the Year.

The freshman outside hitter finished her season with 353 kills, 3.33 kills per set average and a hitting percentage of .338. She was also named to the MASCAC first team.

Dylan Pereira of the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) was tabbed as the 2013 MASCAC Rookie of the Year for men’s soccer after a season that saw the freshman from Ludlow net 11 goals and an assist on the season for 23 points.

Fellow Ludlow natives and Worcester State teammates Derek Alves, a senior back, and Nick Zucco, a sophomore goalie, received All-MASCAC first team honors.

Westfield State University teammates Dan Brady, a senior forward of Wilbraham, and Nick Tavares, a sophomore midfielder from Ludlow, were named to the conference’s second team, along with Worcester State senior back Jake Denver of East Longmeadow and MCLA senior back Robert Dalby of Ludlow.

Jen Ferrari, a senior midfielder for the MCLA women’s soccer team, and a native of Westfield was named to the All-MASCAC first team.
