Locals skate over the competition

SPRINGFIELD The Little Sun Valley Skating Club, based in Springfield, hosted its annual Pioneer Valley Penguin Invitational figure skating competition on Nov. 22. Skaters from throughout New England and New York were on hand to test their skating skills in this U.S. Figure Skating sanctioned competition.

Club members winning medals were:

From Longmeadow: Alina Libowitz, gold in freeskate 1 compulsory moves; Julia Langone, silver in basic 2 compulsory moves; Deepika Babu, gold in basic 6 moves and silver in basic skills program 2; Marija Petrovic, gold in basic 4 compulsory moves; Lauren Stone, gold in basic 8 compulsory moves; and Emily Ishak, silver in freeskate 1 moves and bronze in freeskate 1 program.

From East Longmeadow: Danielle Graziano, bronze in basic 6 moves and bronze in basic skills program 6; and Heather Morton, silver in beginner test track program.

From Wilbraham: Jenna Nebel, gold in basic 3 compulsory moves; Emma Robinson, bronze in basic 2 compulsory moves; and Carolyn Scharl, bronze in beginner compulsory moves.

From Hampden: Allison Pollard, gold in basic 2 moves and gold in basic skills program 2.

From Chicopee: Dagmara Krotki, bronze in basic 4 compulsory moves; Alliana Hasiuk, silver in basic 4 compulsory moves; Jennifer Roberts, silver in basic 6 moves and silver in basic skills program 6; Angelica Obiedzinski, bronze in freeskate 1 compulsory moves; and Arriana Hasiuk, gold in basic 2 compulsory moves.

From Ludlow: Hanna Pomerantz, bronze in basic 8 compulsory moves; Shannon Crowe, silver in preliminary dance, bronze in freeskate 2 moves and bronze in freeskate program 2; and Allisen Goncalves, bronze in beginner test track program.

From Agawam: Lauren Malone, silver in freeskate 1 compulsory moves.

From Springfield: Nicole Garreffi, bronze in basic 2 compulsory moves; Mary Speight, silver in basic 4 compulsory moves; Brianna Feri, bronze in basic 4 compulsory moves; Marisa Zorzi, silver in basic 6 compulsory moves; Elizabeth Zorzi, bronze in basic 8 compulsory moves; Shelby Morrissette, silver in freeskate 3 compulsory moves; Sally Amara Alrutz, bronze in beginner test track program; and Shannon Caldwell, silver in no test freeskate program.

From Holyoke: Brianna Brennan, gold in beginner test track program.
