Longmeadow tri-town travel baseball hosts evaluations

LONGMEADOW With so many baseball leagues in the area, distinguishing one from the other may be difficult. That is why Barbara McLaughlin wants other parents and potential players to know the benefits of being a part of Longmeadow Tri-Town Travel Baseball.

On Oct. 18 and 19, there will be evaluations hosted for those ages nine to 12 at Turner Field in Longmeadow.

Not only a parent of two children who reap the benefits of the league, McLaughlin is also a member of the Board of Longmeadow Baseball Association.

"One of the other great things about this particular league is players get a good one month of practice before they enter into any games," McLaughlin said. "They don't jump right into games. They work on the field and batting. For kids of this age it really helps them to become better baseball players. Later, they reconvene in March."

Players interested in competitive travel baseball, looking to improve their baseball skills, playing against strong competition, competing in post-season tournaments and representing the town of Longmeadow may find their ideal fit in this league. They will have the opportunity to face some of the best teams in East Longmeadow, Ludlow, South Hadley, Wilbraham, Hampden, Monson, Granby, Ware and Agawam.

"The Longmeadow Baseball Association Travel Baseball program provides our young players with an outstanding opportunity an opportunity to develop strong baseball skills, to play competitively with surrounding communities and to enjoy great fun and camaraderie. Baseball is America's favorite pastime and a terrific sport, and coming out for a Longmeadow baseball travel team is a great way to take part in the fun of baseball," George Viamari, president, Longmeadow Baseball Association, said.

Evaluations will take place rain or shine on Oct. 18 and 19, at 10 a.m. for players ages nine and 10, and at 1 p.m. for those ages 11 and 12. To be eligible, all 12-year-olds must turn 13 years of age after April 30 and attend school in Longmeadow.

For pre-registration and questions, e-mail player's name, date of birth, phone number, evaluation time and date to kviamari@comcast.netor julie.erwin@verizon.net.
