Roberts named to Massachusetts Maritime athletic honor roll

BUZZARDS BAY — Joshua Roberts, a senior football player from Springfield at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, was one of 103 members of the fall 2011 Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for the recently completed fall 2011 semester.

To be eligible for selection to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll, Roberts, a marine engineering major, achieved a 3.0 grade point average during the recently completed semester of matriculation.

The 225-pound defensive lineman appeared in five games, recording three tackles — one for a loss — while recovering and forcing one fumble.

Felix leads Westfield State

WESTFIELD — Freshman center Gabby Felix of Springfield had game highs of 17 points and 12 rebounds to pace Westfield State University to a 70-56 victory over Castleton State College in a non-conference game on Jan. 4.

Berthiaume continues hot shooting in New Year

CAMBRIDGE — Springfield College’s Alex Berthiaume, a Springfield native, scored a team-best 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting to go along with a game-high five assists but fell to Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the fourth-ranked team in the country, 67-59, in both teams New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference opener on Jan. 4.

Kaselouskas nets game-winner

SPRINGFIELD — Senior forward Mike Kaselouskas of East Longmeadow scored the game-winner with just 1:07 remaining in overtime to lead the Western New England (WNE) men’s hockey team to a 2-1 win over Framingham State in a non-conference contest on Jan. 5 at Smead Arena.

Pessolano continues solid play

SPRINGFIELD — Ali Pessolano of Hampden scored 11 points, but the WNE women’s basketball team fell 65-55 to Worcester State on Jan. 5.
