SPRINGFIELD The Springfield Rifles Rugby Club traveled to Pembroke, N.H., site of the Amoeskeg New England Invitational High School Rugby Tournament on May 8. Under cloudy, light rain conditions, the Rifles managed to win all three matches of the tournament, securing the first place title for New England Division III Youth Rugby and taking the trophy.
"This was rugby weather with the rain making the pitch slick; the ball like a bar of soap," said Rifles Coach Joe Hogan.
The Springfield Rifles roster includes players from Amherst, Westfield, West Springfield, Longmeadow, East Longmeadow and Springfield. The club accepts any area high school athlete looking to learn a new sport.
