Setian, Wildcats playoff-bound

DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of New Hampshire has earned a bid to the NCAA Division I Football Championship for the seventh consecutive season, the longest current streak in the nation.

The 7-4 Wildcats will visit Bethune-Cookman University (10-1), champions of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, in a second-round game Saturday, Dec. 4, in Daytona Beach, Fla.

East Longmeadow native Chris Setian is a redshirt freshman on the team. He has rushed for 119 yards on 22 carries for the Wildcats this season, an average of 5.1 yards per carry.

Setian was a three-sport athlete at East Longmeadow High School, playing football, basketball an lacrosse.

He rushed for 2,023 yards and scored 29 touchdowns for the Spartans on his way to the Division 2 Super Bowl and the Dagenais Award for most outstanding football player in Western Massachusetts.

After graduating, he spent a post-graduate year at Suffield Academy, where he posted 1,529 yards an 8.8 yard per carry average and 23 touchdowns and won a Super Bowl. After the season, he was named New England Class B Prep School Player of the Year.

He also wrestled and played lacrosse for the Tigers.
