Skating with a Bruin

Bruins enforcer Shawn Thornton travelled to the MassMutual Center Dec.11 to spend a day with his fans. Sponsored by the Springfield area Dunkin’ Donuts franchisees, the event gave lucky giveaway winners the opportunity to skate alongside the Stanley Cup champion, as well as the chance to meet him. Groups of families and friends arrived early to the MassMutual center, excited for the once-in-a-lifetime fan experience. Sporting a Dunkin’ Donuts jersey, Thornton entered the rink filled with anxious fans and signed autographs for all the winners. The Dunkin’ Donuts Iced Coffee character was also present to show off his signature skating moves alongside Thornton.

Winners were invited to the Springfield Falcons game following the open skate, where Thornton participated in the ceremonial puck drop. At the game, Dunkin’ Donuts and the Springfield Falcons raffled off a Thornton prize package, which included a jersey, stick and puck signed by the hockey star to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Springfield. A total of $1,150 was raised for the Boys and Girls Club of Springfield, which was presented during the game.
