Springfield College's Normoyle named Swimmer of the Week

SPRINGFELD – Michael Normoyle of Springfield continued to his first-year success, being named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week on Dec. 10.

He earned the award after winning the 50-yard breast stroke in 27.50 as the Pride powered past Middlebury 162-131. He later swam the fastest time of the afternoon in the 100-yard individual medley after touching in 56.06.

Williamson named to MASCAC honor roll

BUZZARDS BAY – Ludlow's Jenna Williamson, a junior guard for the Bridgewater State University women's basketball team, averaged 17.5 points, four assists and three steals in a 1-1 week for the Bears, including 23 points in a 67-66 setback to 10th-ranked Tufts, earning a spot on the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference honor roll on Dec. 10.

Felix nets 11 points

BOSTON – Westfield State University women's basketball player Gabby Felix dropped in 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds, but the Owls dropped a 55-51 decision to the University of Massachusetts Boston on Dec. 11.

Skiffington records six swipes in victory

HOLYOKE – Junior forward Kayla Skiffington of East Longmeadow had quick hands notching six steals while tallying eight points as the Bay Path College women's basketball team shut down Hampshire College 52-28 on Dec. 8.

Phillips' relay seals win for SC women's swimming

SPRINGFIELD – East Longmeadow's Callie Phillips, was part of a team that combined to swim a winning time of 1:38.29 in the 200 free relay, allowing the Springfield College women's swimming and diving team to lock up an exciting 153-147 dual-meet victory over visiting Middlebury College on Dec. 8.

Phillips was also victorious in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:18.05.

Caliento victorious in loss

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – East Long-meadow's Tom Caliento, a senior on the Western New England University's wrestling team, earned a 10-4 decision at the 184-pound weight class, but the Golden Bears fell to Rhode Island College 27-15 on Dec. 7.

AIC to host girls basketball tournament

SPRINGFIELD – American International College (AIC) will host a girls basketball tournament Dec. 28 to 30 at Henry A. Butova Gymnasium. For more information contact AIC head women's basketball coach Kristen Hutchison at 205-3924.
