SPRINGFIELD The region's premier pro-am summer basketball team, the Springfield SLAMM of the Greater Springfield Pro-Am, is getting set for another successful season. The SLAMM will play in the ultra-competitive Greater Hartford Pro-Am League starting in late June.
The SLAMM, under the leadership of well-known head coach Dr. Steve Sobel, finished 5-5 last season and featured a noteworthy five- game win streak. The league isNCAA sanctioned and draws teams with many notable players.
Sobel is ably assisted by a staff comprised of Tim Jackson, director of player personnel, Aaron Patterson, assistant coach, Ethan Sobel, assistant coach, and Charles Kittredge, director of community relations.
Sobel described the team as having a culture of high performance with players of character and integrity that stress education to our youth and leadership in our communities. The SLAMM has featured players from UConn, Quin-nipiac, Holy Cross, the University of Hartford, Central Connecticut State University, the University of Vermont, Bentley College and Stonehill College and pros.
Several local players have contributed to the SLAMM's success last year. Individual tryouts can be scheduled by contacting Coach Sobel at info@drstevesobel.com.
