Stack cited for offensive prowess

WESTFIELD — Maura Stack of Wilbraham was named New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) Offensive Player of the Week on April 16 after she tallied a team-high seven goals to lead the Westfield State University women's lacrosse team to a thrilling 16-15 victory over Fitchburg State University in a NEWLA showdown on April 14.

The junior attacker was sensational offensively in the second half as she scored three game-tying goals to rally Owls from 12-11, 13-12, and 14-13 deficits.

In a 19-7 defeat of Salem State, Stack added two goals and five assist for a weekly total of 15 points (9 goals, six assists).

She followed up the award-winning week by recording a hat trick to lead the Owls to a 21-3 victory over Beckeron on April 17.

Elms golf finishes third

DARTMOUTH — Junior Philip Rurak of Wilbraham carded a score of 82 on day two, and sophomore Tyler Cudnik of Hampden registered an 89 as the Elms College men's golf team finished in third place at the Hampton Inn Invitational hosted by the University of Massachusetts (UMass) Dartmouth on April 14.

Western New England University (WNE) senior Evan Foley of East Longmeadow led the Golden Bears, who finished fourth overall, by tying for 16th among 88 players with a two-day total of 163 (77-86). Junior Anthony Willett of Springfield tied for 20th with a 164 (84-80).

MASCAC honors Robitaille, Marrone

BUZZARDS BAY — Carrie Robitaille, a Bridgewater State University senior from Ludlow, placed second in the long jump (5.14 meters) and fourth in the triple jump (10.60 meters) at Stonehill Skyhawk Invitational to earn a spot on the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference weekly honor roll on April 15.

Katrina Marrone a senior at Fitchburg State from Springfield also made the honor roll after she finished fifth and broke her own school record in the 3,000 meters (12:42.31) for the Falcons at University of New Hampshire Wildcat Invitational.

Pereira places second at River Hawk Invitational

DRACUT — Junior Nate Pereira of Ludlow tied for third with a six-over par 146 (74-72) as the American International College (AIC) men's golf team tied for second of 11 teams competing at UMass Lowell's River Hawk Invitational, hosted at the par-70 Meadow Creek Golf Club on April 15. Sophomore Tommy LeBlanc of Springfield tied for 24th with a 17-over par 157 (78-79).

WNE, Elms compete at Worcester State invitational

WORCESTER — Evan Foley of East Longmeadow had a strong showing, tying for seventh a score of 80 as the WNE golf team finished second at the Worcester State Invitational on April 17 at the Blackstone National Golf Course.

Elms College sophomore Tyler Cudnik of Hampden registered a score of 86.
