UMass among teams in Hall of Fame Tip Off field

SPRINGFIELD -- The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame recently announced the complete field of teams and game schedule for the re-birth of the longtime Springfield tradition in the city where basketball was born.

The Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off will take place on Nov 20, 21 and 22 at the MassMutual Center. Twelve schools across all three NCAA basketball divisions will compete in three days of competitive action.

"Mixing high quality Division I basketball and the local Division II and Division III basketball community at the MassMutual Center is an exciting announcement for the Hall of Fame," John L. Doleva, president and CEO of the Basketball Hall of Fame, said. "The Tip-Off will once again become one of the Hall of Fame's anchor events and add to the other high profile and successful basketball events hosted by the Hall of Fame annually. We look forward to welcoming all of these schools to the Hall of Fame for a great weekend of basketball."

The game schedule opens with four games on Nov. 20, followed by three games on Nov. 21 and 22. Teams scheduled to participate include: Bradley University (Missouri Valley), Dowling College (Division II), Loyola Marymount University (West Coast Conference), New Mexico State University (Western Athletic Conference), University of Massachusetts (Atlantic 10), Rider University (Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference), University of Southern California (Pac-10), and TCU (Mountain West).

On Nov. 22, two additional games will be played involving Division II American International College and Springfield College from Division III.

American International College will challenge LeMoyne College, while Springfield College takes on Lyndon State in the opening game.

In addition to the games at the MassMutual Center, Bradley University, New Mexico State University, University of Massachusetts, University of Southern California, and TCU will each host campus site games as part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off.

The MAAC will serve as the host conference for the annual event. The MAAC will host the men's and women's basketball championships at the MassMutual Center in Springfield from 2012 through 2014.
