WILBRAHAM – Wilbraham & Monson Academy's (WMA) Christina Wakefield '14 doesn't typically read the Boston Globe.

However, she read the national newspaper on Dec. 9, and she liked what she saw.

Following another exceptional season, Wakefield was named to the 2012 All-Boston Globe team for girls' soccer.

"Coach (Don) Nicholson emailed me and told me he nominated me," said Wakefield, who scored 23 goals in 15 games to help the Titans to the Class B regular season title. "I got the newspaper Sunday and saw it. It was pretty cool. It was an awesome feeling."

Wakefield was named to the WWNEPSSA All-League team and Massachusetts All-State team before earning the All-Boston Globe honor. She was also selected co-MVP of the team.

"I could not be more proud of Christina," Nicholson said. "The honors she is receiving are all outstanding awards, especially for a junior. But she has earned each one of them with hard work, great talent and a commitment to a 'team first' attitude.

"She is a relentless athlete on the field, has a great work ethic and is a tremendous teammate. She does not have a selfish bone in her body and every girl on the team loves her for it. I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to coach such a fine young woman," he continued.

Wakefield has verbally committed to play for Division I Boston University.
