Walz named NECVA of the Week

NASHUA, N.H. — Joe Walz of East Longmeadow, a men's volleyball player at Daniel Webster College, was named the New England Division Rookie of the Week in February by the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA).

Walz, a freshman outside hitter, averaged 4.22 kills per set over three matches, hit .250 (38-16-88), and added two digs, and three service aces. Walz opened the week knocking down 14 kills, hitting .242, with nine digs and three total blocks in a loss at Wentworth Institute on Feb. 15. He followed with 14 kills and six digs in a 3-0 victory over Southern Vermont on Feb. 16 and closed the week with 10 kills, three digs and three aces in a setback at Endicott College on Feb. 18.

On the season, Walz has appeared in every set (34) in all 10 team matches to date. He is averaging 3.5 kills per set, adds 1.97 digs, leads the team with 25 total blocks, and has chipped in with 12 service aces.

Under the guidance of third-year Head Coach Braden Zamore, the Eagles stand 4-6 overall and own a 3-1 mark in New England Collegiate Conference play. The Eagles are also 4-3 in NECVA New England Divisional play.
