Western Mass Select is a premier lacrosse club for girls with the focus on building skills, increasing confidence and creating friendships with other girls who share their love of the sport. During the summer season, teams participate in four tournaments. Please visit the Web site to view the anticipated tournament schedule for the Summer 2010 season.
The Western Mass program is non-profit. Over the last nine years the Western Mass program has been very fortunate to have many area coaches volunteer their time, thus allowing the program to keep participant costs to a minimum. Coaching staff for Summer 2010 will be Cliff Hedges, Lynne Geiger, David Bell, Erinn Gloster, Ed Moses, David Yelle and Francesca DenHartog.
As a U.S. Lacrosse chapter sponsored program, the Western Mass teams are entitled to automatic entry into the U.S. Lacrosse U13 and U15 festivals. The U.S. Lacrosse Festivals have come to be a special part of the Western Mass summer season. It is a venue where the girls not only enjoy the lacrosse experience but also begin to form friendships that carry them through high school and beyond. The U.S. Lacrosse festival draw teams from across the country. Our Western Mass girls have had the opportunity to not only compete against but also to meet the teams from Florida, California, Texas, Colorado and even Hawaii.
In 2009 U.S. Lacrosse introduced a new event the U-15 National Championships, which host the top club teams from across the country. Western Mass was fortunate to have received a berth to compete with this elite group and had a very successful showing in reaching the quarter finals of the three day event.
Tryouts for Western Mass Select Lacrosse for girls in grades five through 11 will take place at Sportsworld Dome, 266 Main St., East Windsor, Conn. Grades five through eight will try out on Nov. 15 from 4 to 7 p.m., and those in grades nine through 11 will try out Nov. 16 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
