Wide variety of sports camps offered

The following are just a few of the many sports camps being offered this summer by the Longmeadow Parks and Recreation Department. For more camp listings or for more information, visit www.lprd.net.



ADVENTURE & DISCOVERY CAMP

Entering kindergarten and first grade. For the independent child or for families where full-day care is required: We'll keep your child happy and busy with swim lessons, free swim, nature study, sports, arts and crafts, music and field trips or special events during each even week. Extended camp hours are available for this camp where children enjoy an afternoon snack, activities that are more specialized and an additional free swim period. Location: GWC.



GREENWOOD CAMP

Entering grades 2 and 3. Your child will look forward to each day's challenge and excitement and build a summer full of special camp memories! This traditional day camp experience will include swim lessons and free swim time, weekly activity themes, camp craft skills, nature study, sports and games, arts and crafts and one field trip or special events during each even week. Extended camp hours are available for this camp where children will enjoy an afternoon snack, more specialized activities and an additional free swim period. Location: GWC.



EXPLORER'S CAMP

Entering grades 4 to 6. A camp for the true adventurer who wants a new and different camp experience with a mix of tradition! Offered with this camp are daily swim lessons, free swim, arts and crafts, nature study and field trips or special events during each even week. Extended camp is located at Greenwood Center. We transport extended campers to and from Bliss Park daily. Location: Bliss Park with extended care at Greenwood Children's Center.



SCAMPEROO NATURE PROGRAM

Ages 3 - 4. Our morning camp emphasizes fun, socialization and new experiences. This program explores the world of insects, things that grow, water play and special guests! Lots of outdoor time and a healthy snack provided daily. Children must be toilet-trained to attend. Location: Greenwood Center.



BUCKAROO

Ages 4 - 6. This wonderful and valuable half-day experience combines traditional camp music with challenging art, indoor and outdoor games. Camp staff will lead activities and encourage creativity and develop social and learning skills. Campers will cool off during "sprinkler time" in the park and a healthy snack and beverage is provided each day. Location: Greenwood Center.



OUTDOOR ADVENTURE CAMP

Ages 11 - 15. Two weeks of high adventure are planned for young teens who don't want to spend their summer sitting around! Participants must be at least 11 years old (birth certificate required) and strong swimmers. The group will meet at Bliss Park daily and then take off for exciting outings such as: river snorkeling, ropes and rock climbing, river tubing, hiking and orienteering, canoeing, rock climbing, horseback riding, etc. Pack a lunch, water bottle and swim gear daily. A complete listing of each day's activities and departure and return times are available online at www.lprd.net and will be provided at the time of sign-up. Mandatory swim test for all campers on one of the following dates: June 21 or July 5 at Reynolds Pool, 1 p.m. Camp meets for two-week sessions, July 7 - 18 and July 21 - Aug. 1.



ADVANCED OUTDOOR ADVENTURE CAMP

Ages 11 - 15. This camp is for young teens who just didn't get enough during our Outdoor Adventure Camp, or kids who participated in our Outdoor Adventure Camp last year, can sign-up for an additional week of more advanced activities, including: kayaking, a challenging high ropes course, caving, hiking, in-pool scuba, whitewater rafting and more! Mandatory swim test for all campers on one of the following dates: June 21 or July 5 at Reynolds Pool, 1 p.m. Camp is Aug. 4 - Aug. 8.



SUMMER COOL THEATRE CAMP

Entering grades 5 - 9. This camp will incorporate a variety of activities including acting, mime, theatre games, stage combat, movement, voice and a final performance! Theatre Camp allows a child to express themselves in many ways and helps with their self-esteem, socialization and teamwork skills. Camp meets at the Longmeadow Community House. Camp sessions are June 23 - July 3 and Aug. 4 - 15.



BASEBALL CAMP

Ages 6 - 14. Our baseball camp emphasizes skill development. Throughout the program, each camper's strengths and weaknesses are evaluated to ensure that skill levels rise in the appropriate areas. With fun and fitness as the operatives, kids work at fielding, throwing, hitting, pitching, catching, base running and game play. Send a bag lunch daily and water bottle. Bring hat, glove, swim gear, cleats and indoor shoes. Group will cool off at Reynolds pool during the last hour of camp. T-shirts for all participants are included in camp tuition. Camp sessions are July 21 - 25 and July 28 - Aug. 1. Camp will meet at Williams and Strople fields.



BASKETBALL CAMP

Ages 6 - 10. Kids will really enjoy this camp, as they learn new skills and become better players. Instruction focuses on dribbling, passing, shooting, rebounding, defense, teamwork, and conditioning. Bring a bag lunch daily, swim gear and water bottle. Participants receive a free T-shirt. Group will swim at Reynolds pool during the last hour of camp. Camp takes place July 14 - 18 at the Longmeadow High School.



BASKETBALL CAMP

Ages 10 - 15. Improve your skills while having a great camp experience. We will teach the fundamental skills of basketball and provide self-help drills. Each camper will be given the tools to improve on their own. Through this quality instruction, all campers will improve and gain self-confidence in themselves. Finally, campers will be given the opportunity to meet new friends and have fun! Bring a bag lunch daily, swim gear and water bottle. Participants receive a free T-shirt. Group will swim at Reynolds pool during the last hour of camp. Camp runs July 7 - 11 from at the Longmeadow High School.



BOYS LACROSSE CAMP

Grades 3 - 6. If you have never played before or have limited experience in lacrosse, this camp is a great way to learn the fastest game on two feet! Participants will focus on skill development. Coaches have some equipment and can provide helmets and gloves. If participants have their own equipment, bring it. Participants will be divided by grade within the camp. Besides a lot of enthusiasm, kids should bring their own stick, mouth guard, swim gear, water bottle and lunch. Daily swim time at Reynolds pool during last hour of camp. Camp runs July 7 - 11 at the LHS lacrosse field.
