WNE second baseman Clark selected to D3baseball.com All-American Team

SPRINGFIELD — Tim Clark, a Western New England University (WNE) baseball player, was selected to the D3baseball.com All-American Team on May 22.

Clark, a second baseman from West Springfield, was named to the second team after leading the Golden Bears with a .428 batting average in 51 games. He led the Golden Bears in slugging (.551), on-base percentage (.464), and triples (five), and collected 80 hits, which tied the school record set last year by fellow All-American Golden Bear Mike Rubino.

Clark was the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player-of-the-Year and an All-CCC First Team honoree. He also made the All-New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) Division III First Team.

He was also voted to the NCAA Division III New England Regional All-Tournament Team.

WNE posted a 38-13 record this past season, captured its fifth consecutive CCC Championship — and seventh straight league title — and placed second in the NCAA Regional.

The Golden Bears are 21st in the latest D3baseball.com poll.

NEWLA Post-season honors

GREATER SPRINGFIELD — The New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) has announced its post-season honors.

In a vote by the conference coaches, Westfield State University (WSU) senior midfielder Carly Keeley of Feeding Hills was named NEWLA Offensive Player of the Year.

Keeley, a three-time first-team all-conference selection, led the Owls in scoring (76 points), goals (56), game-winning goals (three), ground balls (49), draw controls (77) and caused turnovers (19). Keeley finished her stellar three years at Westfield State with 198 points. She scored 10 points during her freshman season at Assumption College for a total of 208 career points.

Playing in her first season of collegiate lacrosse, Elms senior goalkeeper Rachel Schrutt of Chicopee earned NEWLA Rookie of the Year and NEWLA Goalkeeper of the Year honors. In eight league games, Schrutt registered 134 saves and ranked third in the conference with a .511 save percentage. In addition to her abilities in the net, Schrutt picked up 37 groundballs and caused eight turnovers.

Dussault named to All-MASCAC second team

WESTFIELD — The WSU softball team's junior catcher Brittany Dussault of Chicopee was selected to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) all-conference second-teams.

The Chicopee Comprehensive High School alum led the Owls with a .413 batting average and a .447 on base percentage while playing in 32 of the Owls' 41 games. She did not commit an error in 262 total chances defensively.

Barbarisi awarded WNE Female Scholar Athlete honor

SPRINGFIELD — Christiana Barbarisi of Feeding Hills was named the WNE Female Senior Scholar-Athletes-of-the-Year.

She was honored for her accomplishments in the classroom and in athletic competition at the school's Baccalaureate Ceremony on May 18.

Barbarisi finished her undergraduate career with a 3.86 grade-point-average in Psychology. She was the CCC Women's Tennis Senior Scholar-Athlete-of-the-Year.

On the court, Barbarisi made the All-Singles First Team after compiling a 6-4 record in singles competition, including a 4-3 mark at the number one position. She finished her career with an overall 68-35 record (43-16 singles, 25-19 doubles) for a 66.0 winning percentage.

Barbarisi served as captain and was a CCC Academic Team selection.
