GRANBY – The Granby Selectboard had a joint meeting with the Board of Library Trustees on Feb. 16 where they voted to appoint Denise Conti as Library Trustee.

Conti has been a member of  the Friends of Granby Public Library since 1981, and served as a treasurer for them for more than  20 years.

Chair Glen N. Sexton said, “At this time, that is the only nomination we have and this is for the remaining part of the next election which is May. 17. At that time that person will decide whether or not they want to run for the remaining part of the term which is one year left in the term that ends in May of 2022.”

In an update on COVID-19 vaccinations, Town Administrator Christopher Martin told the board he is trying to address the people that are home bound. “We have about 50 residents that are home bound,” stated Martin. “The Board of Health has been in discussions with a lady in Amherst who is in charge of the vaccination program there. We’re trying to figure out how we can get people who can’t get the vaccines. I do know that the town of Amherst said that they can assist us with shots and they will have some of their nurses give some of the shots.”

Martin said the Board of Health at one point was hoping that their own Paramedics or EMTs (Emergency Medical Technician) Department Training would be able to assist in giving shots to the home bound residents as well. The Board of Health are addressing this issue and trying to make sure that Granby residents are being vaccinated in a manner according to their requirements of age and issues regarding the suability to the COVID-19 requires.

They also discussed updates on their search for a new Chief of Police and Fire Chief and the status of the hiring process. Current Chief of Police Alan Wishart wanted to change his proposed retiring dates from May 1 to either July 1 or 2. As part of the process, Martin believes the board should have a conversation with Chief Wishart as a contracted employee regarding the process to do this and it should be a negotiation with a contracted employee done in executive session not here in public session.

Martin responded, “The chief has talked to me and has a couple of options that were being proposed. I believe the board should be able to fully explore both options with the board or the chief prior to making it public knowledge.”

Martin will put together an advertisement that the Selectboard will put out looking for a new current Fire Chief and go forward from there.
