DONATION Fallon Health recently presented a check for $1,500 to the Community Survival Center to help the Emergency Food Pantry. The grant monies were made available through Fallon Health’s Hunger Relief Program.

“The Community Survival Center provides a four-to-five day supply of meals in the form of grocery items to 20 households each day,” said Mary Cassidy, executive director of the Center. “It’s great when providing healthy foods to people in need is a shared priority and we are extremely grateful to be chosen by Fallon Health to receive this money. This money will buy enough perishable meats for the Emergency Food Pantry to last for three months.”

The food programs of the Community Survival Center provide emergency food to families in Ludlow, Hampden and Wilbraham, as well as to families in the Indian Orchard, Pine Point, and Sixteen Acres neighborhoods of Springfield. A monthly food program provides food for low-income people aged 65 and over who live in any Hampden County town. Additionally, families may access a monthly pre-school breakfast and lunch program.

The Community Survival Center also operates a thrift shop whose sales help support the food programs. The Clothing and Household Goods program allows the purchase of items by the bag. Items include household essentials like dishes, sheets, and blankets, as well as clothing.
