SPRINGFIELD – What is your vision of Springfield? Forty-eight photographers took on that question with 98 different images that are on display at the Central Library as well as at the Brightwood branch.

On Nov. 2, those photographers gathered at the Central Library for the opening reception for the exhibit of “Springfield My Home” and a judging of the photographs. Attendees were asked to rate the photos.

“The photos are diverse with lots of different people, places, and events depicted. All of them are wonderful and collectively make an interesting display with beauty and fascination. It’s a wonderful testament to what people love about living in Springfield,” Matthew Vasquez Jaquith, Adult Programs & Training Librarian, who organized the exhibit, said.

The photos ranges from landscapes of familiar city landmarks to portraits of city residents to wildlife seen in Forest park.

The winners were as follows:
• Best Photograph Honorary Mention: Everyone’s Armory, by Michael Marcinkewich
• Most Artistic Photograph, Trinity Church, by Jim Sharrard
• Most Artistic Photograph Honorary Mention: Snowfall in Forest Park, by Mark Archer
• Best Springfield Spirit: 4th of July Fireworks, by Shawn Rairigh
• Best Springfield Spirit Honorary Mention: Tin Man & Friends at the Mattoon Street Festival, by Christopher Behrens
• Bonus Award: Duck Pond in Forest Park, by Dora Campbell

The winners received gift cards and other prizes.

The seven award-winning images will remain on display at the Central Library throughout 2017 in  the library’s lower level.

The display of all the photographs has been extended through Dec. 14.
