SPRINGFIELD – Area authors with poetry, fiction and non-fiction works gathered at the Central Library on Sept. 29 for the 17th Author Fair.

Of the 13 authors at the fair, Springfield was represented with several authors including Haven Triplett, Gabriel Ross and Lauren Rosa.

Triplett writes non-fiction and presented several books. “Perforated Fiber” is described as “the autobiographical story of two brothers who describe their life of desperation, poverty, dysfunction, drug abuse, alcoholism and murder within their family, as they lived in the ghettos and semi-rural areas of Connecticut and Massachusetts in the late 1970s into the 1990s.”

Triplett told Reminder Publishing the book is required reading for a psychology class at Springfield Technical Community College.

Triplett has also produced with this brother “Dear Brothers, Dear Sisters, Listen Up,” which he described as “mature intimate conversations about relationships.”

He is currently working with his brother on “The Good, the Bad and the Blue,” a history of the relationship between the police and minority communities, as well as steps that be taken to correct problems.

Triplett, which is a pseudonym, started writing 10 to 12 years ago. He is a supervisor with NAB Vets. He is currently working on a prequel to “Perforated Fiber.”    Ross is the author of “The Legion of Power,” which he described as a superhero story. The official synopsis reads,” Having wealthy, successful parents turns out to be a curse for ten-year-old Hernando Cortez. As his brilliant parents draw close to developing a cure for malaria, they need more financing from Johnny Shade, a wicked lawyer and crooked politician. When Johnny refuses, Hernando’s parents push back. Soon after, the couple winds up dead. But is it coincidence or foul play? After investigators sweep the incident under the rug, poor Hernando is sent to live with his conniving aunt. It’s soon clear, though, she’s just after one thing: his huge inheritance. She cares nothing for the boy and treats him like yesterday’s garbage. Greed and evilness cloud her judgment when she learns the money can’t be touched until Hernando turns eighteen. Now, there’s no telling the lengths she’ll go to in order to get her hands on that cash. It doesn’t seem as if life can get any worse for Hernando, but it turns out this is just the beginning. Even darker days might be ahead.”

Ross started writing when he was in high school and continued in college. This is his first book and he ended it with “a very gripping cliffhanger.” He is working on the sequel and expects it will be out in January 2020.

As many aspiring writers, Ross works a full-time job as a personal care assistant for Stavos.

Rosa is a first time children’s book author whose book “Annalee, Briana, and Caiden . . . Go to Paris France! is designed to be the first in a series of travel books.

The official description of the book is “ My three children; Annalee, Briana, and Caiden love exploring and going on new adventures. In this book, after being stuck inside on a rainy day, they come up with this idea to build something that can take them far away. They had big dreams and didn’t want anything to limit their travel abilities so they combined the technology of the rocket, boat, and car to create the ‘Rocabar!’ With a lot of team work and dedication, the Rocabar was complete. Now Annalee, Briana, and Caiden are ready to share their travels with you!”

Rosa is interested in continuing the series with the three children going to other locations around the world.

All of the books mentioned this story are available on-line at Amazon.
