HOLYOKE – The annual three-day festival, which celebrates the city of Holyoke, will once again return to Heritage State Park in August.

Celebrate Holyoke is expected to draw tens of thousands of people to the park over the course of Aug. 24, 25, and 26 for food, drinks, and live music. Holyoke restaurants such as Capri Pizza, Holyoke Hummus, and Slainte are among popular food options expected at the event.

“With three days of music, food, and entertainment, we have an opportunity to connect with one another as a community and celebrate all those things that make Holyoke exceptional,” said Holyoke Mayor, Alex Morse.

This year’s event will also feature a performance by Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter, Arlo Guthrie, who is most well-known for his song, “Alice’s Restaurant Massacre.” The song, which was debuted at the Newport Folk Festival in 1967, details the Thanksgiving Guthrie and others decided to clean up the Stockbridge restaurant belonging to their friend, Alice.

Guthrie will take the stage the night of Aug. 24 following “Appalachian Still,” a Northampton-based string band. He is scheduled to perform from 7:45 to 9:30 p.m.

Also performing are a number of local musical acts from a variety of genres. Included in the acts are an African drum and dance act, New York style Latin jazz, rock, an Eagles tribute band, and others.

Rachelle Warwick, event manager of Celebrate Holyoke, told Reminder Publishing concert attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs so that they may be more comfortable while listening to the music.

Guests will also have the chance to support Holyoke businesses through purchasing goods from local artists and makers.
