HOLYOKE – During its fourth annual #GreenNFit Holyoke Day on Sept. 20, members and volunteers of Revitalize Community Development Corporation helped out three homeowners in the Paper City.

The homeowners included Mr. and Mrs. David Roger Hough, a U.S. Navy veteran who served in Vietnam, at 70 Norwood Terrace and Linda Lepore-Wilson, the widow of a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Vietnam and Cold War era, at 206 Homestead Avenue.

Gathered at 51 Brown Ave. were employees of Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Wells Fargo to make repairs at the home of Carol LaBoursoliere. She is an 80 year-old widow of a military veteran and has lived in her home for 53 years. Her late husband Edward served in the Air Force during the end of the Korean War. Although she has mobility issues, she goes to the Senior Center every day.

Coming out of the home to greet the volunteers, LaBoursoliere said, “I’m not a talker. I appreciate it. Thank you.”

The volunteers were divided into groups to tackle specific tasks around the single-family home. Some went inside to paint a ceiling, while others were assigned to paint the exterior of the home. In the back yard, vegetation was cleared out and a new fence was installed.

Other tasks included painting the foundation and hatchway, installing a hand railing in front and side entrance, staining the remaining fence that does not need repairing or replacing, and repairing the soffit to keep pests out of her attic.
