LONGMEADOW — Fourth grade students at Longmeadow’s Center Elementary School celebrated Arbor Day on April 26. While it may have been a gloomy day, the rain broke briefly to give some of the students the opportunity to  mulch a newly planted Hackberry tree  – one of only three in town – outside of the school.  During the celebration students listened to a brief history of Arbor Day from Longmeadow Tree Warden David Marinelli, recited the poems “What Do We Plant” by Henry Abbey and “Trees” by Harry Behn, and heard remarks by Town Manger Stephen Crane and state Sen. Eric Lesser. At the close of the event each student received a White Cedar sapling – a 50-year Arbor Day town tradition – courtesy of the Longmeadow Garden Club.
