LONGMEADOW – In a few short weeks, locals will be invited to tour seven Longmeadow homes through the Friends of the Storrs Library Book It Library Tour of Homes.

The self-guided tour features the interiors of six unique homes along with the Brewer-Young Mansion. The press release, provided by the Friends of the Storrs Library explains, “You will visit homes including: one that was likely connected to the Underground Railroad; a Victorian Gothic style house; and a contemporary Frank Lloyd Wright designed home.”

In addition to these homes, the tour also features a home that has a large ballroom with a wall covered in original horsehair from the 1800s and a “do-room” inspired by a 2010 HGTV Dream Room program.

The largest property on the tour is the Brewer-Young Mansion. This home was purchased in 2017 by the Longmeadow Historic Preservation Partners, and was previously owned by many well-known, prominent individuals. Today, it is repurposed as professional offices.

According to Book It Library House Tour Committee Member Carole Mazzarino, the homeowners offered up the tours after the committee sent a request.

“We are pleased to feature these homes, which date from the early 19th century to the present,” Mazzarino told Reminder Publishing.

Homes to be included in the tour are located at 65 Pendleton Lane, 808 Longmeadow St., 766 Longmeadow St., 734 Longmeadow St., 35 Plymouth Road, 663 Longmeadow St., and 796 Longmeadow St.

This is not the first Tour of Homes Longmeadow has hosted – the first tour event took place in 2008, which parents at Center School organized in an effort to raise funds for the school. With that being said, this is the first time the Friends of the Storrs Library has organized a Tour of Homes.

On Oct. 5, the date of the event, those who sign up must stop at the Storrs Library to pick up their tour guide and map. Participants can proceed to each location at their own pace.

“The Friends of Storrs Library is a group of Longmeadow citizens who raise money for the Storrs Library. These funds allow the library to expand programming and materials,” Mazzarino said. “The committee is looking forward to hosting this wonderful community event, which includes exciting programs at the Historical Society, too.”

The tour will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 5. Tickets are $25 until noon on Oct. 2, and after Oct. 2, the tickets rise to $30. Tickets are available for purchase at the Storrs Library located at 693 Longmeadow St. in Longmeadow. Tickets also can be purchased at www.friendsofstorrslibrary.org.
