LONGMEADOW – The town of Longmeadow hosted their annual town election on June 16, asking residents to select three planning board members, a new select board member, and three school committee members.

In the only contested race in town, former planning board members Joshua Levine and longtime member Kenneth Taylor were re-elected to the two open seats, one for four years and the other for five years, respectively.

Levine had previously been appointed to a seat on the planning board in January of this year, while Taylor has held a seat on the board for 13 years.

Levine received a total of 940 votes, earning him the four–year term on the planning board, while Taylor surpassed newcomer Bo Sjoberg by 56 votes, coming in at 565 votes to Sjoberg’s 509.

Former school committee members Gianna Allentuck and Kevin Shea were re-elected to the committee for three–year terms at 909 and 925 votes, respectively, while Nicole Choiniere filled the remaining open seat, also for a three–year term, with 893 votes.

Steven Marantz was elected to the open Select Board seat for a three year term in a race that was not contested. Marantz earned 973 votes from members of the town.

A seat on the housing authority for five years was up for grabs at the election. With no name written officially on the ballot, residents had the opportunity to write–in who they felt best fit for the job. There were a total of 138 write–ins for this position, however the names of the individuals who were written–in as well as the winner were not available by press time.

All in all, a total of 1,152 votes were cast at the June 16 election, out of the 11,852 registered voters in Longmeadow, leaving the town with a 9.72 percentage vote rate.
