LONGMEADOW – The Willie Ross School for the Deaf (WRSD) will be hosting their first annual Photography event on Nov. 16, featuring work by WRSD students.

Education Director at WRSD Erika Kaftan told Reminder Publishing that students had the opportunity to participate in the DreamCatcher Photography Program, a program of AIM for a Better Tomorrow. This program provides each student with a camera, basic shooting and editing skills and teaches them to capture photos.

“One of our board members happened to meet the founder of the DreamCatcher program on an airplane and they got to talking. One thing led to another and they contacted us to offer their services,” Kaftan shared. “Our students do not have access to a photography class nor cameras, so we thought it was a terrific opportunity to provide them with cameras and lessons on how to take and edit photographs.”

Approximately 36 WRSD students participated in the program. Many of their photographs will be on display and available for purchase at the event. Kaftan stated that each picture would be priced between $15 and $20 each, with half of the proceeds going to DreamCatcher and the other half to WRSD.

The WRSD’s first annual photography event will take place at the school’s Longmeadow campus, located at 32 Norway St. from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 16. The public is welcome to drop by, view photos and support the school.
