LONGMEADOW – Wolf Swamp Road Elementary School conducted its first “wolf pack” gathering on Sept. 14 where all of the students, preschool through fifth grade met in the gymnasium.  At the start of the school year, the students and faculty decided that they wanted to raise money for victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas.  At their wolf pack meeting, each grade combined the money they’ve raised over the first three weeks of school.

Following Wolf Swamp’s school song led by music teacher Amy Westhaver, the students were welcomed into the gymnasium with their jars full of change.

“This first Wolf Pack gathering is a community service project, however we went beyond our community and we decided to help out our friends in Houston, Texas who were affected by Hurricane Harvey,” Math Resource teacher Nancy Moriarty said.  “Many people lost their homes, and their cars, and some even their schools.  We decided to raise money to give back to our friends in Houston.”

One by one students from each grade at Wolf Swamp carried a jar or bucket of coins and dumped them into several large communal containers.  The children squealed with delight watching the jars grow more and more full.  Each classroom raised money for two weeks leading up to the assembly, which was held three weeks after Hurricane Harvey hit Texas.
