SPRINGFIELD – For the family-owned Carr Hardware, its new partnership with Benjamin Moore Paints has created a paint and decorating store the company hopes will be a new business model.
Bart Raser, president of Carr Hardware, explained to Reminder Publishing the new store at the Five Town Plaza on Cooley Street – Carr Paint – “hopefully will be the first of many.”
This is the Pittsfield-based company’s first partnership with a vendor, he added.
The store offers not only Benjamin Moore Paint but also Graber brand window treatments and offers in-home measuring, consultation and professional installation, as well as featured area indoor and outdoor rugs by Kaleen.
“We are truly proud to partner with Benjamin Moore and bring to Springfield a paint decorating center like no other in the market today. The store is specifically designed to serve the needs of local municipalities, institutions, contractors, interior designers and homeowners, alike,” Raser said.
In the era of the big box store Raser said their advantage includes “super well-trained local folks who are well versed” in paint and decorating.
“They are experts with years of experience,” he added.
He noted Benjamin Moore Paint is among the nation’s top brands and is not available at big box outlets.
Raser said the store’s window treatment design services are all custom.
He said, although wallpaper has generally fallen out of favor with homeowners and designers, he said it is coming back a little bit and although the story doesn’t currently carry a selection, he is considering it for the future, based on demand.
“I’m excited. I think this is a great partnership. We’ve never had a dedicated painting and decorating store,” he said.
