SPRINGFIELD – Trisha Leavitt is the owner of Dress the Table, a business which specializes in home decor sales, tabletop arrangements and interior decorating services.

Leavitt shared with Reminder Publishing that she has always loved being creative and was a hairdresser by trade for many years. According to Leavitt, the support of her friends and family is what drove her to start Dress the Table. She would frequently help them with house projects such as painting or redecorating and soon they began to say she should make it a business.

“I started helping them with things and they were like ‘You really should be doing this!’ and I was a little shy about it at first, but then I just dove into it and I love doing it. It’s just so much fun,” said Leavitt.

Dress the Table is currently an online store, but Leavitt said that she hopes to have a brick-and-mortar location one day. Leavitt hand-makes centerpiece boxes and also sells home decor which she sources from other companies. The centerpiece boxes are made from reclaimed wood which Leavitt can inscribe or even put flowers in. Dress the Table ships nationwide.

Leavitt started making the centerpieces about two years ago, but stopped when the coronavirus pandemic hit. She said that getting product was difficult during the start of quarantine, but when everything opened up she was able to dive back into Dress the Table. She said that her business has greatly picked up over the last three months.

“This is definitely going to become a full-time thing for me, hopefully. I would love to have a brick-and-mortar store and even help out with some design elements if they wanted to have me look at a space and be like ‘Hey, what would you do with this?’ and I’m happy to help,” said Leavitt. “I’m not an interior designer, however, I do love doing that stuff.”

Leavitt currently offers “problem space assistance” through Dress the Table, where she can give clients ideas of how to decorate their spaces, go to stores to help them pick out decor or even research decor items for them to buy. The price for this assistance is different based on different space sizes, what the project entails and how many hours Leavitt works. She recently helped renovate a bathroom in Springfield through this service.

“I love being creative and I love to shop for home decor. I’m always switching up my house, so it’s really fun to pick out things for people and see it evolve and to see photos of it in my friends’, family’s and client’s spaces. It’s really fun to see what they do and even their spin on it,” said Leavitt. “I love to see how it can make someone so happy who maybe doesn’t have the know-it-all to pick out what they need.”

Leavitt is currently the sole employee of Dress the Table, but she said she hopes to be able to employ others in the future. She encourages people to check out her business because of her creative background and versatility in design.

“I am very versatile, I’m fun, I’m artsy. I’ve remodeled my own home several times and I gutted and remodeled a home in Middleborough, Mass. many years ago. I don’t just do one type of service, not just contemporary or farmhouse, we can switch it up and make it into something that they really like,” she said.

To get the word out about Dress the Table, Leavitt offers weekly giveaways and specials on Facebook. Anyone who shares Dress the Table’s Facebook page with their friends and invites them to like it or steers them toward Dress the Table’s website is entered into a raffle. Prizes change weekly and can include items such as free candles or a even percentage off an order.
