SPRINGFIELD – Springfield Technical Community College (STCC) is hosting their yearly STCC Gives event to raise money for student programs and scholarships on June 3.

According to Kelly Galanis, director of operations & donor relations at STCC, the STCC Foundation has set a goal of raising $10,000. The Collins Companies will be matching the first $10,000 of gifts.

Donations will be accepted throughout the entire month of June until the goal is met.

“Folks can still make a gift up through June 30 and they will be considered for the match until we reach that dollar figure,” said Galanis.

Funds from STCC Gives will go directly towards student scholarships, student programming on campus and the Student Empowerment Fund.

“It’s a really important event because it gets to concentrate on bringing those donations in on one fell swoop to kind of get the programming ready and gear up for the next year. It’s important that we have a running start as we begin the fiscal year so we can put those funds towards very much needed programming that has to happen on campus,” said Galanis.

Those interested in donating are able to make a gift online by visiting stccgives.com, by texting “STCCGives” to 50155, calling the STCC Foundation at 755-4529 or mailing cash or a check to STCC Office of Advancement, One Armory Square, Springfield, MA 01105.

Galanis said that this event is a great way to get the community involved and supporting STCC students.

“We see a lot of support not only from the community, but also from our alumni and our faculty and staff as well as many, many friends from the institution. People come from everywhere,” she said.

In a press release, one student, Chicopee resident Miranda Lebel, spoke on how past contributions have helped her succeed at STCC.

"STCC was tremendously helpful in my journey towards becoming a nurse. I found the community to be supportive, kind, and a champion of my success. I was honored to receive scholarships from the STCC Foundation which made my education not just a dream, but a reality. The STCC Community is filled with superheroes,” said Lebel.

Galanis said that she is excited to watch donations come in and help give students the opportunity to excel at STCC.

“My favorite part is watching how everyone comes together and seeing those donations come in. I love surprises, I love seeing folks that we haven’t heard from in some time come back to us, those alumni who are ready to give back remembering when they were students and just generally the whole community that comes together to support us for this day and we’re very, very grateful for that,” she said.
