SOUTHWICK – Remember these three words – Kettlebread Deli Restaurant – because they make up one very tasty experience.

If you haven’t been to Kettlebread Deli Restaurant yet, I urge you to do so now.
As part of a work assignment, reporters from Reminder Publishing were tasked with reviewing their favorite sandwich from a local restaurant or sandwich shop. I have to admit – I did not have a favorite sandwich … until now.

After hearing rumors of a delectable sandwich shop in Southwick, I ventured into town to put my taste buds to the test. Nestled at the bottom of College Highway, 491 College Hwy. to be exact, this shop features a style that embraces modern and old-time mom and pop all at once.

As you walk into Kettlebread Deli, you are greeted by friendly faces and welcomed by a simple black and white décor that allows the colors of the food to shine through brightly.

The menu list is quite extensive, featuring grilled sandwiches with names like The Italian Job, Cattleman’s Steak and Cheese, Heavenly Ham, Greek Turkey and Feta, Tuna Cheddar Super Melt, Vegitaliano, Southwest Chipotle Chicken, Ultimate Four Cheese BLT, Peppercorn Roast Beef Asiago and Spicy Ahi Tuna.

They also offer a Pastrami Reuben.

I have to say, just reading the ingredients was a mouth-watering experience in and of itself.

After an excruciating time trying to pick a sandwich from the wide selection, I settled on the Peppercorn Roast Beef Asiago. It was the right choice.
Let’s start with the bread.

All Kettlebread Deli will disclose about the bread is that it is a “family secret, all-natural artisan bread recipe involving a complex three-day process, baked daily in round kettle plans, butter-salted crust.”

The bread is thick, but light and fluffy, with a slightly flaky texture. Bursting with flavor goodness, every ingredient – Kettlebread’s signature house-cooked peppercorn roast beef, the Asiago cheese sauce, the Kettle Kreme sandwich sauce, red onion, lettuce and tomato – works to combine one Best Damn sandwich into a wholesome choice for anyone.

The sandwich comes complete with Deep River kettle chips and a deli pickle.

Note: Since beginning this article in late spring, I have visited Kettlebread four more times. I have to say – the Ultimate Four Cheese BLT may just be the best BLT that I ever sank my teeth on. If you haven’t been to Kettlebread, treat yourself right away. You won’t regret it.
