AGAWAM – After being put on hold because of COVID-19, Six Flags New England opened its brand-new ride, “Supergirl Sky Flyer” on June 11.

In the park’s newest ride, a maximum of 24 riders are seated individually with their feet dangling before beginning to tilt and spin as the ride gets into motion. At its peak, riders are 7 stories in the air spinning around the wheel at 25 miles per hour while tilted at 80 degrees.

Before it officially opened, three members of the Reminder News Team got a sneak peak at the ride and rode it three times in a row.

Staff Writer Dennis Hackett, who is a Six Flags and roller coaster veteran, said he enjoyed the ride.

“I really enjoyed the ride and liked the fact that as the ride continued to go faster, we also continued to tilt even more until we were fully upside down at the peak of the ride. While I started feeling a little nauseous on the third run, I had a lot of fun,” he said.

Ryan Feyre, staff writer and former roller coaster fanatic, thought that the ride’s name fit the experience well.

“I originally grew tense watching others manically spin and tilt at a vertical 80 (degrees), but in reality, it felt like someone was continually pushing me on one giant swing,” Feyre said. “It was less nauseating than anticipated.”

Staff Writer Peter Currier found the ride to be unique among other rides offered by Six Flags.

“The ride is intense, but thankfully is not as anxiety-inducing as something like the neighboring Superman ride,” said Currier. “I would have gone on it over and over until the park closed if they would have let me, and I had the time.”

Six Flags’ spokesperson Jennifer McGrath said that the “Supergirl Sky Flyer” had been in development for more than a year. She said that Six Flags used the closures from COVID-19 as an opportunity to clean and improve the park.

“During COVID last year, not being able to open up our property, we took advantage of every minute by rehabbing, painting, improving, landscaping. Our park is absolutely gorgeous,” said McGrath, “So Supergirl Sky Flyer, while she took a little longer than we would have liked, she is now ready in 2021.”

“Supergirl Sky Flyer” is now open to the public and is in Six Flags’ newly themed DC Universe section next to the park’s famous “Superman” roller coaster.
