The Allen Bird Club invites public to birding activities

Nov. 2, 2017 |

SPRINGFIELD – November still holds some interesting birding activities for enthusiasts in Western Mass. At the regular meeting of the Allen Bird Club on Nov. 6, Peter Christoph will narrate a slide program taking viewers sloshing and crawling with him through a New England swamp for a captivating view of its many bird inhabitants and their activities. The meeting is at 7:30 p.m. at the Springfield Science  Museum (The Quadrangle) with parking in the Edwards Street lot, just off Chestnut Street and one block from State Street in Springfield.

On Nov. 11, all, including beginners, are invited to join the club on a half-day trip to the Berkshire Lakes to look for waterbirds.  Dress appropriately for the weather and bring a snack.  Meet at McDonald’s in Lee just north of Mass Turnpike Exit 2 at 8 a.m.  For additional details and leader contact information, go to the club website at www.allenbirdclub.org.

Then on Nov. 18, join the club for a full-day trip to the North Shore of Massachusetts to look for seabirds, ducks, and alcids (the group of sea birds that live off shore and, among others, includes puffins, although we are unlikely to see puffins).  Meet in the commuter lot behind McDonalds near the Turnpike entrance in Ludlow at 6:30 a.m.

As always, check the web site as mentioned above for more details and right before the trip to make sure there are no changes or cancellations.
