West Springfield readies for return of Taste of the Valley

WEST SPRINGFIELD – The Rotary Club and Town of West Springfield’s “Taste of the Valley,” presented in August and sponsored by Chicopee Savings, is taking shape with 13 restaurants, concessions and food trucks booked to date and a wide variety of performances secured by popular local bands & entertainment.

The 2016 Taste will take place Aug. 11 to 14 on the Park Street Town Common in West Springfield. Visitors will have the opportunity to sample an array of delicacies and signature dishes from the following eateries: Millie’s Pierogi, Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream, Carol’s Concessions, Edible Arrangements, Mamma Mia’s Pizzeria, Spuds Your Way, Bruiser’s BBQ, Crepes Tea House, Angelo’s, Get Your Irish On, Granville Country Store, Bernat’s Polish Meat Products & Deli, and Bottega Cucina.

A variety of domestic, imported and craft beers will be available as well as wine, sangria, cider, frozen drinks and soft drinks.

West Side’s Taste of the Valley is a community event made possible by the volunteer efforts of the Rotary Club and Town of West Springfield, the West Springfield Lions Club and many others. Hours are Thursday, 4 to 9 p.m., Friday, 4 ti 11 p.m., Saturday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The entertainment lineup for this year is finalized with shows from the following performers: L.A.’s Backstage Pass, Double Play, Truck Stop Troubadours, Richie Mitnick and the Sounds of Music Singers, Relentless, Soular Bears, Wind of Sparrows, Off the Record, Piper- Hopkins Band, FAT, Two Free Spirits, Bob Lives On, sponsored by K-Fest and The Tom Doherty Band.

The annual Taste of the Valley 5K Road Race kicks off Sunday, August 14 at 10 a.m. Race participants will follow a 3.1 mile route that starts and ends at the Senior Center on Park Avenue. This year’s Taste will also include a midway with games and rides for children and teens, animal rides and a petting zoo with exotic animals.

The Taste of the Valley’s “Saturday Cruise,” returns this year with a display of classic, antique and special interest cars on August 13, 1 to 5 p.m. There is no fee to participate, and vehicles are judged by a panel of representatives from the event, with the winners awarded trophies and gift certificates.
