AGAWAM – The town of Agawam continues to seek input from residents on how they are experiencing climate change. Through a survey launched in early May, people have been able to voice their local and personal discoveries.

Marc Strange, director of planning and community development in Agawam said, “The town of Agawam is working with a team of consultants to create a comprehensive Stormwater Master Plan for Agawam, which evaluates the town’s stormwater infrastructure and creates a prioritization plan for repair and maintenance moving forward, among other things. Part of that process involves gathering residents’ feedback on how climate change and flooding has impacted their lives in Agawam.”

According to a press release, “The survey, prepared by the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission in collaboration with town officials and engineering consultants Woodard & Curran, is part of a larger project related to assessing Agawam’s current and future vulnerability to localized flooding as resulting from more frequent and more intense precipitation events.”

The survey is made up of 12 questions. Respondents have the option to enter to win one of four $25 prepaid gift cards.

“The response thus far has been steady but we need to hear from as many residents as possible about their personal experiences with climate change and flooding in Agawam,” said Strange.

Residents are encouraged to complete this survey as the town will be considering their responses when prioritizing future stormwater and maintenance repair projects.

The original deadline for survey responses was June 4, however, Strange said, “That’s not a hard deadline; we are still accepting survey responses.”

The entire Master Plan project is scheduled to be completed by June 30. The survey is available online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/AgawamClimate.

Any resident interested in completing a survey but needs help can call the Office of Planning and Community Development at 786-0400, ext. 8245, for assistance.
