AGAWAM–The Town of Agawam conducted a 9/11 remembrance ceremony at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 11 in front of the Agawam Fire Department Headquarters, where the September 11th Memorial is located.

The brief ceremony honored the victims who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The memorial was dedicated in 2002, and is a scale replica of the World Trade Center 1 and 2 buildings. It was planned and designed by City Councilor George Bitzas and funded by Berkshire Power, Six Flags New England, John’s Trucking Company, Santo De Spirit Marble and Granite, Baystate Gas and Woronoco Savings Bank.

The ceremony’s speakers included Agawam Fire Department Chief Alan Sirois, Agawam Fire Department Chaplain Father Bill Hamilton, Bethany Assembly of God Reverend Tim Reed and Mayor William Sapelli.
