Agawam Public School retirees recognized during School Committee meeting

AGAWAM – At the Agawam School Committee meeting hosted on June 11, retirees of the Agawam Public Schools were honored.

The faculty who have retired following the 2018-2019 school year are:

• MaryJane Augusti, sixth grade teacher at Roberta G. Doering School, after 11 years of service

• William Dillon, physical education teacher at Roberta G. Doering School, after 26 years of service

• Alma Glaiel, special education teacher for grades 1-3 at Agawam Public Schools, after 16 years of service

• Patricia Lapinski, grade 2 teacher at Clifford Granger Elementary School, after 31 years of service

• Diana Lyman, math interventionist at Benjamin J. Phelps Elementary School, after 17 years of service

• Elizabeth Marble, computer science teacher at Agawam Junior High School, after 14 years of service

• Donna Panuccio, foreign language (French) teacher at Agawam Junior High School, after 31 years of service

• Carol Patrick, special education teacher at Roberta G. Doering School, after 18 years of service

• Debra Tierney, fifth grade teacher at Roberta G. Doering School, after 19 years of service

• Pamela Vallon-Jackson, English teacher at Agawam High School, after 20 years of service

• Dean Vecchiarelli, chemistry teacher at Agawam High School, after 33 years of service

• Joanne Prout, paraprofessional at Clifford Granger Elementary School, after 19 years of service

• Joan Couture, secretary at Agawam High School, after 22 years of service

Superintendent of Agawam Public Schools Steven Lemanski read the names of each retiree and presented them with proclamations.

The proclamation read: “From the Town of Agawam, best wishes and congratulations on your retirement. Presented this 11th day of June 2019, on behalf of the Agawam School Committee and all the citizens of the Town of Agawam, I’d like to extend our gratitude to [retiree] in recognition of [his/her] commitment and dedicated years of service and for contributing to the success of the Agawam School Department. Congratulations.”

As the retirees left the stage of the Agawam Junior High School auditorium, School Committee member Wendy Rua joked, “It’s such a big loss as you all walk out, but no more Monday mornings.”
